Best 3s Lipo Battery for Arrma

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been trying to find cheap and durable quality lipo batteries, that’s why I’m showing you this battery, Ovonic Rebel 80C 11.1V(3S) 5200mAh, Rebel series, the best 3s lipo battery for Arrma. To recap, I’ve been testing these battery packs for the past few weeks without encountering any issues. The hard case has additional protection, is sturdy, and it packs quite a bit of impact.

Practical testing

We run them with TYPHON 4X4 3S BLX. Got a 3668KV motor, BLX100 Waterproof ESC, lots of power potential here, 45 tooth pinion, 47.2 tooth spur gear, Reese RC beast 1000 servo, no servo protector. The battery just fits in the crate. They are short compared to average and protect balanced plugs. After a frantic run, the battery had a lot of available amps to power the motor, no disappointment, and eventually, the battery survived.

After about 10 runs of the TYPHON 4X4 3S BLX, they performed flawlessly, never cut off prematurely, jumped great, and enjoyed the binge all the time. Whenever I charged them, it was always well balanced from start to finish, there wasn’t much difference between the cells, no heat or swelling. I tried to test top speeds, and  the Ovonic delivers more punch than other budget batteries . The 80C discharge rate satisfies my motor and crazy driving style.

Charger to test battery performance

To test them more accurately, I used the charger to charge and discharge the battery repeatedly. Fully charge the battery to the maximum voltage of the battery, which means the battery pack is charged to 4.2V. At the end of the charge cycle, the voltage peaks as it should, and then the amps drop as it begins its balancing cycle.

It is then discharged at 15 amps, which is equivalent to a 2C charge of a 6500mah battery. The voltage did not plummet and was relatively stable. After the discharge was over, the battery cooled to room temperature, and it was measured that it released about 6000 mAh of electricity. Since I only put it at 3.5V, if you put it at 3.2V it’s probably close to 6500mah, and you’re pretty much on the edge of the battery danger zone.  After testing, the voltage difference between their highest voltage and lowest voltage is only 0.033V. The discharge time is about 22 minutes, so the capacity is pretty close to what they claim.  The battery didn’t overheat, it maxed out at 40C, and even though it was at the end, our voltage didn’t drop drastically, or anything. Obviously, the Ovonic is great and very reliable, and these batteries are what I really want.

Summarize

I’ve been using Ovonic, seems to be from a reputable company, Ampow, and many people compliment Ovonic, including a friend of mine who actually has two Ovonic 3s 8000mah and a 3s battery in his Arrma that runs at 45 Between minutes and an hour, so I’m very impressed.

If you’re looking for a super cheap 3s battery for your Arrma car, the Ovonic is definitely one for you to consider. They work on all fast 3s cars, when you need 6s you just connect them in series and now you have a successful battery, perfect for a modular solution.

Also, their website has hundreds of different sizes of batteries for Arrma, not just 4s, and 6s batteries, but also high milliamp-hour ratings for Arrma. For example, they have a lot of sales and if you want to buy two or four they also have better deals. They are not as prone to problems as other low-budget batteries. I have a few packs of Ovonic and they never swell, have high internal resistance, and have significant voltage differences. Plus, they have a 30-day no-questions-asked return policy, and their customer service is absolutely second to none. If you want more punch and power for your Arrma car, more capacity, runtime, or both, the Ovonic is the best budget option.

3s battery for Arrma buying guide

  1. Voltage: Check if the total battery voltage meets the requirements of your motor or ESC, then select 3s or 4s. In addition, you can also connect batteries in series to get a larger voltage, such as 3s in series to become 6s batteries. If you are a hobby beginner who is not very familiar with voltage, you can check this article which can help you with the voltage of regular RC lipo batteries.
  2. Size: Check if the battery size meets your requirements. If the battery you bought won’t fit in your crate, that’s a bad thing.
  3. Plug: You need to know if your car matches the battery plug. Of course, you can replace the plugs you need yourself if you have the tools.
  4. Soft case or hard case: A hard case protects the battery from collisions. When your Arrma is trying to make big jumps or flips, you don’t need to worry about hitting the battery. But hard case batteries tend to be slightly larger and heavier than soft case batteries. Compared to the hard case, the soft case is lighter and smaller and can fit in more Arrma crates. But if the pouch battery gets a big bump, it can swell or burst, so that’s something you need to consider before buying.
