According to statistics, the service life of a normal fpv battery is about 150 cycles, but there are also have some batteries that lose power after less than 100 cycles due to the incorrected used
Therefore, the battery must be well maintained. Of course, the specific situation still depends on your usage habits. When you encounter the following situations, I regret to tell you that this is a sign of battery failure and your battery is not far from being replaced.
So, everyone should pay attention. How to deal with these problems, the most important thing is to judge the problem correctly and handle it.
FPV battery failure signs
-
There is an abnormality when starting
As the battery discharge capacity becomes weak, the starter does not work well and makes a squeaking sound. This situation is especially obvious at low temperatures. Because the weather is cold, the battery activity will also decrease, and this situation will improve or disappear when the weather gets warmer. So many pilots don’t care.
-
The battery is swollen and leaking
If this happens, it should be replaced in time. This is not just a battery life issue, but even a safety hazard.
Battery maintenance program
Self-check battery
The first is voltage, and the other is starting current.
Second, maintain the battery
The battery is a consumable item, and it will eventually fail. Therefore, we can only rely on the usual details to extend its life as much as possible. To develop a good battery habit.
- The charging voltage shall not exceed the specified limit voltage (4.2V per chip). The charging current should not be too large (for example, 6s 1000MAH Ovonic batteries are generally charged with a charger setting of 1A-2A).
- Correctly connect the positive and negative poles of the battery. If the positive and negative poles are connected reversely, the battery cannot be charged. Reverse charging will damage the battery and even cause heat, leakage, or fire.
- Over-discharge will damage the battery. When discharging, the voltage of the single battery must not be lower than 3.0V (when the single chip reaches 3.6v, the aircraft can almost start to land).
- The battery should be stored in a cool environment. When storing the battery for a long time (more than 3 months), it is recommended to place it in an environment with a temperature of 10-25°C, a low temperature without corrosive gas. During long-term storage, the battery is charged and discharged once every 3 months to maintain battery activity and ensure that the voltage of each cell is within the range of 3.7 ~ 3.9V!
- Even the best battery must be equipped with a good charger.
- FPV must use brand batteries instead of non-brand batteries, because the voltage of the single chip is very different.
- When flying in high temperature, try to choose before sunrise or when the sun goes down. Pay attention to the heat dissipation of the LiPo battery and ESC, and install them outside the aircraft as much as possible to dissipate heat.
