Landing according to battery voltage
Warm reminder from OVONIC, you can refer to the data of the battery indicator as to the usual standard: when flying to a voltage of 3.3V, the red light starts to light up, it is recommended to land, and there is still a certain amount of power reserve, so the ESC protection can be set to 3.0V, but it must be considered The performance deviation of batteries from different manufacturers.
If the voltage is lower than 3.7V, the voltage will drop very quickly, and the power and maneuverability of the aircraft will soon become worse and worse. If you fly too quickly, something will happen, or if you fly far away, you won’t be able to fly back if you don’t fly back. , If there is still a little wind, the aircraft will drift away, because the wind resistance will be very weak, or even lose the wind resistance. In order to fly for a few more minutes, it is not worth losing a battery. When it reaches 3.3V, I have measured it, and the plane cannot fly off the ground. It is all measured by me with a high-precision multimeter!
What is the battery voltage as no power?
The monolithic cell of the battery can be put to 2.5V and it will be out of power. However, the battery should not be over-discharged as much as possible, otherwise, it will swell, so it is almost necessary to stop charging it. I generally use 3.7V or more.
You can judge how much power is left based on the battery voltage
Take 4.2V single-chip battery as an example.
4.20V—-100%
3.95V—-75%
3.85V—-50%
3.73V—-25%
3.50V—-5%
2.75V—-0%
Precautions
Don’t rely on the under-voltage protection function of the ESC. When the ESC detects that the voltage of the 3S battery pack has dropped to the threshold and gives a warning, one battery must be under-voltage. I use the balance power monitor to monitor online at intervals and write down the earliest flight time when the light is on. Set aside 2~3 minutes to set a countdown on the remote controller during normal flight, and replace the battery in time according to the prompt tone. At this time, single-cell battery voltage is not less than 3.7V.
In this way, my 2200mAH, 15C 3E batteries have been charged and discharged 220 times, and they can still hover for no less than 10 minutes. Some poor batteries, old batteries, and batteries with large internal resistance, the voltage even reach 3.8V or 3.9V, the aircraft has obviously felt weak. The discharge platform of lithium batteries is like this: 4.2V quickly drops to about 4V, and then slowly drops To 3.7V, and then quickly drop to 3.3V,
So the airplane is very violent when it is fully charged, and then it will be normal soon, and it will be bad when you feel weak or even unable to fly.
How long can a general FPV drone fly?
Take a 5-inch FPV drone as an example, When the battery is not over-discharged, the FPV drone uses the general power system, as long as it flies slowly, it can fly for about 5-10 minutes.
FPV drones can unload some auxiliary equipment to reduce weight and increase endurance, such as
Sports camera, GPS speedometer, external OSD, etc. In addition, I tested that the flight time and the quality (not the collocation) of the power unit (motor, ESC, propeller) are not very related.
Whether the traversing machine can fly for a longer period of time is more related to PID parameters or flight mode. The PID is incorrect, and the motor adjusts the speed back and forth too frequently, which will consume a lot of power. When the PID parameters are adjusted correctly, the normal flight is not only easier to control, but the flight time will naturally be longer.
There are two main ways to set the FPV battery voltage alarm, buzzer or OSD. In my personal experience, these two methods have certain limitations. The drone can’t hear the buzzer when it flies far away. When using OSD, I usually put the prompt information below so as not to affect the line of sight, but if I fly too much, I often ignore the flashing warning text on the side.
If you are using a Frsky remote control and the receiver has a return function, you can return the battery voltage to the remote control, and set voice and vibration alarms on the remote control. The remote control is always in hand, and the alarm is easy to perceive, which solves this problem better. To use this method, the receiver must first support backhaul and connect the backhaul to the flight controller correctly.
FPV drone battery recommendation
Ovonic battery company has launched a corresponding high-rate FPV battery for the mainstream FPV drone models on the market. It has the characteristics of high cost-effectiveness, high energy density, and low resistance, and is well-recognized and loved by global RC players.
